Any care to share any horror storys from past partys?

Unfortunately I'm unhappy to say I've had my computer crash and more than one party. Once it got a big BOOOOOO and took me aminute to get shit abck together, the other time people were not really dancing so i got away with it... Pain in the ass though! Fucking technology hahahaha

On my current system the Xponent, if you drag a tune on to the deck that is playing at the time, it just stops it and positions the new track - there is no protechtion to 'ask' if you are sure you want to do that. I have yet to play live with it, will be doing so this weekend at a small party, and next weekend at a huge one, but I really hope I do not make that mistake again...

something goes wrong at most gigs some worse then others.

the worst though was last year when i decided to put on my own night and start big.

I got a venue and all that shit. and booked a high profile dj from england who was a big hero of mine to rock the place and get the ball rolling for my night.

A big fat loan was required for his fee,hotel,flights,rider etc..which i would make back with plenty of profit to roll on to the next night.
The weeks past and the exitement/stress built as the night drew closer.all the while keeping regular contact with the agent.

Sound system set up and all that shit,then 5 five hours before the gig the phone rings and the djs wife is sick and hes not coming.
They sent a replacement(to cover their arses in the contract) which would have been grand had it been in London where people know their shit,but not over here.

I booked a ferrari but was sent a golf gti or booked AC/DC and got linken park.

Needless to say I was not happy and the people who had paid money for tickets were not happy with me.
I got dogs abuse from all sides all night. And once I finished my set i spent the rest of 'my big night' refunding tickets.
The door closed and went home a broken man.(sigh)

Calls the next day from agency looking for the rest of the fee and I was still looking for the dj I had booked!
so they got the rest of the money out of my wages as i made fuck all from the night after expences.

I returned to the venue to pack up only to find my full record box had walked out the door....(weep)

so pretty much needles jumping,records warping and lap tops raping my brain wont get to me as much these days.

It sounds abit dramatic there but It took me a long time to get past all that shit(and the gaping hole in my recod collection is alway a reminder).Icing on the cake being the cunt returned to play here the day after i paid the final repayment of the loan for his fee!

But im back up on the horse now and having taking such a hit in the early days has taught me alot and prepared me for alot of shite that I will face trying to put on partys for people that probably wont give a shit anyway

my sympathies 'the hand'...that is one hellish experience!
You should name and shame the DJ

After reading many horror stories about laptops crashing during a gig I often wonder is Digital DJing really ready for the main stage yet?
OK, the likes of Sasha may use Ableton Live and a laptop but for the average Joes out there is it better to use a dedicated player/mixer setup instead of the unreliable midi controllers of this world...just a thought.

id agree,with the likes of the hawtins off the world going the whole laptop route is no real problem..ive switched to cdjs,and i also have serato,if me laptop packs up,im covered with cds,the likes of ableton is good when used right,or when ya get your head around how to use it!!!to me a bad xcample is steve bugs last mix for the fuse club,i think ya have to move with the times to a certain extent...

Was using Xovers at a gig in limerick, a generator was hired by the venue, the voltage was set too high and fried the amp running the bins. Had to use the tops for full range. No one in the crowd even noticed the difference.

1. I was doing a night up in the plough once and it got smashed up by a load of drunks coming in off the street and looking for a row.

2. Summer Street party..............My vinyl melted it was so warm..........think the 12" was lionrock - carnival

3. Another time i had some fat drunk shit head who found a place to jump on the dance floor to make the records scratch.........that one ended bad for him though.

4. Broken needles..............always used to happen.

5. Forgetting some leads

And the best was getting into a fight with lord mayors son at the mansion house over asking me to lower the music down, never got paid that night for some reason

Wow, that's mad!

Yeah I have forgot some cables several times before, don't think I'll do it again I always bring spares!
